A pink river of more than 10,000 people of all ages flowed through Daytona Beach on Oct. 27 for Making Strides of Volusia-Flagler, an annual walk hosted in cities nationwide by the American Cancer Society to raise money and awareness.
Participants began arriving around 7 a.m. for the walk. Booths from various sponsors lined the streets and gave out commemorative items, such as T-shirts, hats and pens. Survivors and their family and friends reunited beneath a survivors booth while others enjoyed activities, such as Zumba or listening to survivors' stories, before the start of the walk.
By 8:30, survivors received their medals in a special ceremony and everyone lined up to begin the 3-mile course. Throughout the walk, everyone basked in the cheers from onlookers. Some held posters with encouraging words such as, "I'm here because of you."
