The Port Orange Police Department arrested 81-year-old Hellmuth Kolb on charges of battery and false imprisonment of a child after he tried to buy an 8-year-old girl from her mother.
The woman and her daughter were sitting on a bench outside Walmart on 1590 Dunlawton Ave. on Sept. 28 when Kolb sat beside them, according to the arrest report. He asked the woman if she was married and asked questions about her daughter. Kolb then offered the woman money three different times for her daughter.
Kolb tried to touch the girl's arms and legs, and when she and her mother attempted to leave, he pulled the girl in for a kiss on her wrist, according to the report. The woman left the area with her daughter immediately and called the police. The woman also posted on Facebook warning others, saying that Kolb offered her $200,000 for her daughter.
Another woman read the post and called police officers because a man matching Kolb's description approached her and her daughter about a month ago at the same Walmart.
When Kolb was found and questioned, he confirmed he was at the Walmart and spoke to a woman and her daughter on Sept. 28, but he said he did not remember if he touched or grabbed her.
However, the woman selected him out of a photo lineup with 100% certainty.
