The Garden Club of the Halifax donated a new holly tree to Osceola Elementary on Friday, Jan. 19, and a group of 10 first-graders were able to witness the dedication.
School principal Kevin Flassig stood beside the new tree and thanked the garden club for helping them in restoring the foliage they've lost these last couple of years.
“You may have noticed that we lost a lot of bushes and trees in the past two years, and to see it coming back, the new green coming back, it warms the heart," Flassig said
After their principal spoke, the excited first-graders read sentences from small index cards to thank the garden club. “Thanks for helping to make Osceola pretty,” "Trees are important and helpful" and “It was nice of you to give one to our school" were a few of their notable responses.
Now, these students will be able to watch that holly tree blossom as they grow alongside it.
