After months of preparation, the Bunnell Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization hosted the school’s first winter carnival on Saturday, Jan. 13, at Flagler Palm Coast High School.
One of the PTO presidents, Casey Jones, said BES normally holds fall festivals, but to avoid adding to the event-filled fall season, BES decided a winter festival was just what the Bullpups needed.
“It’s a lot of work, but it seems worthwhile,” she said. “We can already tell that it’s bigger than anything else we’ve ever done. It seems like people are appreciating it.”
Hot chocolate, s’mores and lemonade stands were among the treat tables run by representatives from different BES grade levels. There was a gift basket silent auction, and local food vendors lined the FPC parking lot for guests to enjoy. FPC football players also manned the outdoor inflatable games.
The profits from the festival will allow the PTO to help teachers with different events for students throughout the school year.
“We don’t go on class field trips anymore at Bunnell because we just don’t have the money,” Jones said. “So (teachers) can come to us for that or for different events, and we’ll have it for them.”
The 50/50 raffle proceeds will go to former BES student Connor McClaughlin, who is currently battling cancer.
