Children showed love to about a dozen elderly residents of Avante at Ormond Beach during a Valentine's Day party on Sunday, Feb. 18.
Missing Peace, a faith-based community based in Ormond Beach, hosted the Valentine's party as part of their focus on service. Katy Steinberg, the pastor and founder of Missing Peace, said the event's purpose was to make sure the residents know they are loved and important.
"This event is just to serve and bring some goodness into the world," Steinberg said.
The group was founded in August 2015 by four mothers who wanted to raise their children to be "good humans," she said.
"We hope that this teaches (kids) to love people in their community," Steinberg said. "I asked one of the kids last week, 'What is church?' and she said, 'It's a place where you get peaceful and then you help people,' and I feel like that's what church should be."
Missing Peace member Terrie Greenbaum watched with a smile as her children Teagan and Sawyer Greenbaum made valentines and passed out heart-shaped doughnuts to the residents at Avante.
"It's just a great opportunity to teach the kids to give," Terrie Greenbaum said. "The kids are so sweet and show such love to the adults."
