A man who allegedly threatened to kill the mother of his child was arrested following a vehicle chase by law enforcement on the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 4.

The suspect, 23-year-old Tavarius Stokes, allegedly threatened to kill the mother of his child at a residence in Bunnell on Friday, Aug. 3. The Bunnell Police Department responded to the threat but could not find him.

Stokes showed up at the woman's house again around 2 p.m. Saturday and allegedly pointed a gun at her.

Deputies spotted his vehicle, which was stolen, near Flagler Palm Coast High School, going eastbound on State Road 100. Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly, who was also in the area at the time, authorized a vehicle apprehension. Deputies attempted to stop Stokes, who then fled east on State Road 100, made a U-turn by Old Kings Road and drove southbound on Interstate 95. Staly said the suspect was driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed.

FireFlight and the Volusia County Sheriff's Office also participated in the pursuit.

Law enforcement was able to box Stokes in near the State Road 40 exit. Stokes hit a deputy's car while trying to flee and tried to ram the vehicles of several other deputies, including Staly's.

No one was hurt.

Stokes was arrested and was booked into the Volusia County Jail. He was charged with auto theft and aggravated fleeing and eluding. Other charges are still pending, Staly said.

"I'm just glad nobody was hurt," Staly said. "He showed complete disregard for everyone."
