Superheroes, Star Wars characters and even a dancing unicorn filled Las Palmas at 70 Town Court on Saturday, Oct. 28, for Vincent's Clubhouse Halloween Bash.
Erica Cona, founder of Vincent's Clubhouse, walked around in a Superwoman costume, while her son Vincent was The Flash. Vincent's Clubhouse is a nonprofit organization that Cona started in Aug. 2016 with the mission of creating enjoyable, educational summer camps that suit the needs of children who have autism or other sensory sensitivities.
"We want children with autism and their families to have events of their own that they can come to and feel safe and comfortable," Cona said. "However, we also want to create an inclusive environment and have families with neurotypical children come as well."
Cona said many parents tell her that they wish "society would understand [their] child" or that other kids would play with their children despite their autism. She hosts these types of social events in the hope they will help foster that kind of welcoming, inclusive environment.
