The smell of barbecue and traditional fixings filled the air at Rockefeller Gardens on Saturday, Oct. 21, as the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce held its sixth annual King of the Grill competition.
Chamber President and CEO Debbie Cotton said they took a chance by holding the event the same weekend as Biketoberfest. She said while the turnout was a bit smaller compared to previous years, the goal of bringing the community together was still met.
“It’s amazing,” Cotton said. “It takes a village to put on an event like this, and by that, I mean volunteers, Chamber members and my staff worked incredibly long hours to put this together.”
Cotton said 347 people signed up to be the tasters for the Amateur Grillers. Judges and everyday citizens ranked their favorites from the nine amateur and eight professional grillers.
The competition served as a fundraiser for the Chamber of Commerce to be able to benefit its local business members.
