For the first-time, Old Kings Elementary and Rymfire Elementary competed against each other in a volleyball match on Thursday, Oct. 12, at Rymfire.
The Old Kings Owls won all three games in the match: 25-21, 25-19 and 25-16.
The idea came to fruition because Rymfire coach Tracy Jones and Old Kings coach Tressa Landi coached the volleyball team together at Rymfire last year. But this year, after Landi moved to Old Kings, the two decided to have their end-of-season game against each other instead.
"The middle schools now offer volleyball, and I feel that these girls can go out for those teams with some confidence," Landi said. "When I saw the enthusiasm on my girls' faces at the match against Rymfire, it made my heart full, and this is why I do what I do. These memories are priceless."
Though the match was a one-time occasion this school year, Jones said she hopes they do it again next year.
"It means a lot to me to be able to share my passion for volleyball with future players," Jones said. "Watching the excitement on their faces as they improve from week to week makes it all worth it."
