Mainland’s Hunter Delucia won the strikeout count with 11 to Sandcrabs’ Mike Samartino’s seven, but Seabreeze beat the Buccaneers 6-0 on Tuesday, March 21, at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.
Outside the second and sixth inning, neither team could muster any offense, but the Sandcrabs (6-4) were able to connect enough to send runners home.
“I felt we squandered a couple opportunities early in the game,” Seabreeze coach Anthony Campanella said. “We had a couple of innings with runners in scoring position, but we didn’t execute to bring them home. We need to be more consistent at the plate, and hopefully, that will come as the year progresses.”
The Bucs (5-2) also failed to send their runners home who were in scoring position. While giving up several hits, Samartino and the Seabreeze defense did enough to beat its crosstown rival comfortably.
“Mike threw a great for us to keep us in it,” Campanella said. “I really enjoy coaching this team; we have great chemistry.”
The two will meet again at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at Daytona State College.
