Christophe Cardot, the French-born artist, is coming to Port Orange to teach a class on painting entitled "Painting with the Colors of the Rainbow.”
The artist and educator will spend four days teaching young artists about primary and secondary colors in addition to how the students can replicate colors found right in their backyards. The students will have a chance to then use what they have learned to create original paintings.
"I begin by teaching the children to mix paint to recreate all of the colors we find in nature, using only the colors of the rainbow," Cardot said. "They then use these colors to create nice and harmonious paintings."
Cardot, who was invited to teach after someone recommended him, is a fine arts painter originally from Troyes in Champagne. Cardot specializes impressionist landscape with oils.
According to Cardot, his love for art began at a young age. He said he remembers always drawing as a child but he didn't begin to seriously paint until he was in his twenties. This, Cardot said, was when he took the opportunity to realize his dream of becoming a full-time artist when he moved to the U.S.
Now, with a home base in Edgewater, Cardot said he has found the Port Orange and New Smyrna Beach area to be an ideal place to create and share his passion for art. As for teaching local children about art, it's become an enjoyable part of Cardot's life and a way for him to help local youth to discover their own talents.
"I hope the children will be inspired to express their creativity and they will want to pursue it further," Cardot said.
The classes will be offered for youth, 8 years and up, on Wednesdays from 5 p.m. – 6:30 pm. September class dates are 6, 13, 20 and 27. The four-class series cost is $80 with art supplies included. Pre-registration is required and seating is limited. Call 386-767-0076 or email [email protected]. For more information about the classes, visit arthaus.org.
