The atmosphere at Pop Johnson Field was nothing short of electric.
Despite how one-sided the Spruce Creek-Seabreeze rivalry has become on the field, off the field there’s the same amount of screaming fans on either side.
The main difference was the Seabreeze crowd was mostly moping, while the Creek crowd was constantly cheering.
Spruce Creek soundly defeated Seabreeze 42-0 on Friday. Running back Jacquez Lord rushed for three scores and 105 yards on the ground and Kyle Minckler tossed a touchdown pass to Cameron Cole during a dominant first half.
The team also accrued a defensive touchdown on a Logan Monday interception and a special teams touchdown on a blocked punt by Jhemez Hull.
Overall, Creek dominated and Seabreeze was hardly able to move the ball. Eventually, Seabreeze went to safety Jalen Miranda at quarterback out of the wildcat to start the second half, and the athletic defender actually showed some throwing prowess. There may be some positives to take for Seabreeze, but overall, it was a 60-minute struggle.
“You can’t be 3rd and 12 all the time with all the pressure they bring,” Seabreeze head coach Troy Coke said.
“Sometimes it feels like there’s 15 of them out there when they’re performing like they did tonight.”

Included in the defensive onslaught was Tyler Berrong, who saw his first action of the year after not playing a snap during the preseason loss to Seminole. He collected an interception and a sack on the night, and was a constant pest in the Seabreeze backfield.
The star of the night was most certainly Lord, who has become noticeably stronger in the offseason as he carried tacklers on multiple occasions.
Lord broke his hand against Seabreeze last year, so for him, this was sweet revenge.
“The offensive line was doing a good job of getting their blocks. I was being patient and waiting for the line to get where they need to go,” Lord said.
“I’ve just gotten stronger. I can take hits and keep running.”

Spruce Creek will host Atlantic next week, who got mauled by Lyman 62-0 in Week 1.
Seabreeze will have a bye week next week, but will host Florida Palm Coast on Sept. 7.
