There are still spaces available for Volusia County's summer voluntary prekindergarten programs.

The School District of Volusia County will provide a free VPK this summer for families of incoming kindergartners who have not taken advantage of the state’s free program.

Registration takes place at the student’s home-zoned school between the hours 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The following sites may be selected during registration: Citrus Grove (DeLand), Edgewater Public (Edgewater), Friendship (Deltona), Palm Terrace (Daytona Beach) and Sweetwater (Port Orange) elementary schools.

The program will operate four days per week, generally Monday through Thursday, beginning June 5, to July 27.  School hours are scheduled for 7:37 a.m. –to 5:30 p.m. Although breakfast and lunch are served free to all children, transportation is not provided.

To participate, a child must:

  • be 5 years-old on or before Sept. 1, 2017;
  • be a resident of Volusia County; and
  • have a current, valid summer 2017 Certificate of Eligibility from the Early Learning Coalition of Flagler and Volusia Counties
