When Anastasia Harrison first started participating in the Cypress Creek Raft Race in Alabama, there were about 50 rafts. By the time she left, there were over 700 entries. She hopes to bring that kind of popularity to the Tomoka State Pirate Raft Race in Ormond Beach.
Held Nov. 19, five different teams created their own handmade rafts and powered their way down the Tomoka River using only their own strength to battle the wind and the elements. Harrison, who's the captain of the Krewe of the 13, hosted the event as a fundraiser for The St. Francis House in St. Augustine.
"In Florida, there is so much water," she said. "So why not?"
