“This tournament is like the Super Bowl for the local tennis clubs. The heats are played in a Fast Four format, and each team is playing towards winning the USPTA Grand Cup.”

Throughout Saturday morning, on Mar. 6, seven teams competed in the USPTA Champion of Championships Tennis Tournament, hosted by the Oceanside Country Club in Ormond Beach. The tournament has been held annually for the last 12-years with proceeds benefiting the Volusia Literacy Council.
“This tournament is like the Super Bowl for the local tennis clubs,” said Dave Brown, of the Plantation Bay Country Club, and co-founder for the tournament. “The heats are played in a Fast Four format, and each team is playing towards winning the USPTA Grand Cup.”
The Oceanside Country Club has continuously been the tournaments champion for the last three years.
“The winner of the tournament basically gets bragging rights and has the trophy to show off for the year,” said Mike Sanders, of the Oceanside Country Club. “The tournament provides a healthy competition between the tennis clubs, all while benefiting a great cause.”
Every year the tournament raises on average $13,000 towards the Volusia Literacy Council. The council is a nonprofit organization that provides free tutoring for adults, in all the core subjects, in Volusia and Flagler County. The council’s mission:
“To affect community wide changes by improving the basic literacy skills of adults and to increase literacy awareness.”
