Sept. 16

Watch where you park

5:44 a.m. — First Block of North Beach Street

Civil Complaint. The victim said she discovered her van missing from the parking lot after taking part in an overnight sleep study.The police officer found the car listed as being towed by a private company. It was discovered that an employee at the business had the van towed because it was in the front lot. The victim said she did not know she was supposed to park in the back lot.

Sept. 16

Cereal thief

12:41 p.m. — 1500 Block of West Granada Boulevard

Shoplifting. The suspect was seen inside the story taking fingernail polish and toothpaste from a shelf. He then opened a cereal box, placed the items inside and then taped the box back up. He was stopped after leaving the store after only paying for the cereal.

Sept. 16

Keep those receipts

12:40 p.m. — West Granada Boulevard and Old Tomoka Road

Abandoned Vehicle. Responding to a call about two men and a monkey parked near an elementary school, the officer found an abandoned car. The license plate was hanging by a screw and a computer check showed it did not belong to the vehicle.While the officer was checking the car, a woman walked up and said she bought the car off “some guy.” However, she did not have any paperwork.

Later, two men and the monkey were dropped off by a van that had given them a ride.

The officer had called to get the car towed, and the suspects became upset. The officer said they could have it towed to their house if they could show proof of ownership.

The suspects said they did not get a title or a bill of sale from the person they bought it from.

The tow truck driver arrived to take the car and said someone would have to show proof of ownership before he could release it.

Sept. 19

Jail is even safer

8:07 p.m. — 100 Block of West Granada Boulevard

Prohibited Alcoholic Beverages. A police officer saw the two suspects sitting on a picnic table drinking beer on the north side of the police station under the overhang. Each had a partial can of Hurricane High Gravity Malt Liquor.

The suspects had a sign saying, “I love OBPD.” They told the officer it was the safest place to drink.

They were arrested and transported to jail.
