Sept. 5

Fast snatch

12:38 p.m. — 1500 Block of West Granada Boulevard

Theft. The victim said she was in a store and someone reached in her cart and grabbed her purse. It happened so fast, she didn’t even know what the suspect was wearing. She thinks it may have been a white male but was not sure.

She had nine dollars in cash, several bank cards, a Social Security card and driver’s license in the purse. Later, the purse was found without the contents.

You can be too friendly

11:58 a.m. — 100 Block of Tomoka Avenue.

Possession of Schedule IV Substance and Narcotic Paraphanalia. The officer noticed a small, white car driving with its lights off. After being stopped, the driver and passenger showed signs of nervousness by being over friendly, the report noted. They also had glassy eyes.

Asked if they had marijuana, the driver held a pill bottle and said that was all he had, and his hand was shaking.

After a K9 alerted to a scent, a search was conducted which revealed a scale, marijuana, pills and two half-empty bottles of beer.

The driver’s mother arrived with his prescription for pills, but they were for a different pill than was in the bottle.

Sept. 8

Online card theft?

3:46 p.m. — 200 Block of Rockefeller Drive

Fraud. The victim said he only uses a credit card to pay his water bill and electric bill online. He received a call from his bank about 14 suspicious charges on this credit card in Daytona Beach, Minnesota and Ohio. He still had the card.

The bank reimbursed all of the charges.

Sept. 9

Working together, almost

12:50 p.m. — 1500 Block of West Granada Boulevard

Grand Theft. The department store employee said he saw the suspect’s boyfriend point out what items he wanted his girlfriend to take and she filled her purse with them.

The girlfriend walked out past the registers while the boyfriend left by another door. The girlfriend was arrested and taken to jail.

Sept. 10

Inviting a search

1:10 p.m. — River Beach and State Road A1A

Possession of Marijuana. The officer activated his lights after seeing an SUV with an expired tag and a windshield cracked all the way across. The SUV pulled into a beach approach.

After the officer wrote a citation for an expired tag, he asked the suspect if she had any guns or knives in the vehicle. She said, “No, you can look if you want to.”

The officer repeated, “So you don’t mind if I look,” and she said, “No, go ahead.”

A small, burned cigarette that tested positive for cannabis was found on the seat. The suspect said it belonged to her husband. She was arrested and given a notice to appear in court.

Sept. 12

Emergency get-away

1:29 a.m. — 1500 Block of West Granada Boulevard

Shoplifting. The department store employee heard a fire alarm. When she looked, she saw a marked fire emergency exit door standing open. Outside, the suspect was entering a car with a television on the roof. It was at least a 32-inch TV.

The tag number was linked to an Edgewater address but police there were unable to make contact. Video of the incident was not immediately available.
