Three Flagler Schools were recognized for their healthy school programs at the Flagler School Board meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
“These three schools implemented and achieved healthy school programs,” said Stephen McCloskey, representing the Florida Coordinated School Health Partnership and the Florida Action for Healthy Kids.
Silver Healthy School awards were presented to the principals and staff of Bunnell and Wadsworth elementary schools, and Rymfire Elementary earned a bronze award.
“Only 1,300 schools out of 30,000 have achieved a bronze, silver or gold award,” McCloskey said. “That’s less than 5 percent, with 241 schools out of the 30,000 earning a silver award – you have two.”
The Alliance for a Healthier Generation was formed in 2005 to reduce childhood obesity.
“There were 235 participating schools in 2006; in 2013 there were 30,000 in all 50 states,” McCloskey said.
