Helicopter finally stops motorcycle
8:05 p.m. — South Nova Road and Fleming Avenue
Attempting to Allude at High Speed, Suspended License, No Driver’s License.
The officer saw a black Honda sport motorcycle with no headlight, taillight or visible tag. Part of the front fairing was missing and it had a loud exhaust.
The driver, wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and helmet kept looking back at the officer who had to make a U-turn to get behind him.
At a stop light, there was a pickup truck between the officer and the motorcycle. When the light turned green, the officer activated his emergency lights, and the truck pulled over.
The motorcycle rider kept turning around and making eye contact with the officer. The officer noted that the driver spent more time looking back at him than he did looking ahead.
The motorcycle increased his speed to about 100 mph, and began to dart in and out of all three lanes while cutting in between cars without signaling and continuing to look back. The officer stopped the chase per department policy and radioed the information.
A sheriff’s deputy saw the motorcycle go by but also could not chase per department policy.
At 9:45 p.m. on the same night, the officer saw about 10 motorcycles going southbound. The same motorcycle that he followed earlier was leading the pack. The officer could not follow, because he was on the other side of the street. The same deputy tried to stop them but was also unsuccessful.
Air One, the Sheriff’s Dept. helicopter, tracked the motorcycle’s movements, while keeping tabs on its traffic violations. Eventually, Port Orange police encountered the motorcycle in a subdivision and were able to arrest him on multiple charges, including two counts of fleeing or attempting to allude.
The suspect told the Port Orange officer that he did not stop for the Ormond Beach officer because he knew he would go to jail for having a suspended license. He said he had a funeral to go to later in the week and did not want to miss it.
His license had been suspended for failure to pay traffic fines. He was taken to Volusia County Branch Jail.

Walking to the backyard, he observed three males dancing in the screened patio. One of the suspects said he was renting the house with a friend who was inside sleeping. The other two were visiting.
A nearly-empty bottle of vodka was on the table but the suspects, who were underage, said they did not know who it belonged to. One of the suspects emptied the bottle.
