The ceremony was held Jan. 16.

The city of Ormond Beach Department of Leisure Services celebrated Florida’s Arbor Day Jan. 16 in Central Park II. Leisure Services Director Robert Carolin began the ceremony and Deputy Mayor and Commissioner for Zone 4 Bill Partington presented a proclamation to commemorate this special event.

Guest Speaker Alan Burton, the current president of the Kiwanis Club of Ormond Beach, explained about some special qualities of trees, and how they are important to the environment and the earth. He also put a lot of emphasis on explaining how it is important for everyone in the community to support tree planting projects.

The Kiwanis Club of America is also celebrating its 100th Anniversary, and they wanted to partner with the city to mark this special milestone.  Two live oaks were donated for this special event. One was from the Kiwanis Club of Ormond Beach in honor of a fellow Kiwanian, and the other from the city’s Landscape Contractor, Austin Outdoor.
