Undercover cops check on bartenders

10:14 p.m. — 100 Block of East Granada Boulevard. Selling Alcohol to Person Under 21. The Ormond Beach Police Dept. recently conducted an operation throughout the city checking for underage drinking at various establishments.

In one of the cases, an underage operative, working with the police, ordered a Miller Lite at a bar at a restaurant. He was closely monitored by an officer in plain clothes.

The bartender asked for his identification, and the operative presented his real Florida Driver’s License, which identified him as 17 years of age. The bartender inspected the license and then handed it back and asked, “Would you like a big glass or small glass?” He ordered a small glass and she set the beer on the bar in front of him.

The undercover officer first informed the manager at the restaurant and then confronted the bartender. The bartender said she recalled the license saying he was born in 1992. The license states the operative was born in 1997. The bartender was arrested and then released with a notice to appear.

Other arrests were made at locations throughout the city during the operation.
