Free-wheeling

10:20 a.m. — 200 Block of North Nova Road. Petit Theft, First Degree. The victim said he parked his red and silver Schwinn bicycle in front of a store. Upon leaving the store, he saw a female with a pony tail, wearing a dark tank-top, riding off on the bike. The victim called police as she was riding away.

While the officer was speaking to the victim, two other officers saw a male and a female, who matched the description, riding on a scooter on West Granada Boulevard. The female was holding onto a bicycle that matched the description with one hand. The officers conducted a traffic stop.

The officer brought the victim to the suspects’ location and he positively identified the bicycle and the female suspect. Both suspects were then placed under arrest. The value of the bike was estimated at $250.

Theft protection

4:04 p.m. — 200 Block of Seton Trail. Burglary of Conveyance. The victim said he left his truck in his driveway three days ago. He went out of town and returned the next day. He noticed that the inside of his truck was ransacked and his spare key, which he keeps in the console, was in the ignition.

Tools, change, CDs and sun glasses were taken from the truck. He believes the suspect did not steal the truck because the brake goes all the way to the floor and needs repair.

No evidence was found. A neighbor said about 20 young people were working across the street over the weekend, but it was unknown if they were involved.

Crime of opportunity?

6:10 p.m. — 500 Block of South Atlantic Avenue. Theft. The front desk employee had told the motel manager that $200 was missing from the cash register, so the manager reviewed the security footage and saw that a theft had taken place.

The footage showed a car pull into the parking lot with what appeared to be some type of restaurant advertisement attached to the roof. The female suspect got out of the car, and entered the lobby with what appeared to be a stack of fliers.

The suspect stood at the front desk and after seeing no employee, walked around the counter and began to pull on the cash register drawer. She then found the key lying on the desk and used it to open the drawer.

She removed the money, wiped the counter as if removing fingerprints, and exited the lobby. She then left in the car. The officer asked for a copy of the security footage.
