Unemployment up a bit over the month, down over the year

Flagler County’s unemployment rate climbed from 9.3% to 9.4% from January to February, but this February’s rate still beats last February’s 11% rate.

Flagler County’s 9.4% rate was the second highest in the state behind Hendry County’s 9.8% rate.

The state’s February unemployment rate for February was 6.2%, also down from last February’s rate, which was 7.9%, according to data released from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.

The 6.2% state unemployment rate was the lowest since June 2008, when he rate was 6%.

The state also added 211,500 jobs — an increase of 2.8% — over the course of the year.

The county with the lowest unemployment rate was Monroe County, which had a February unemployment rate of 3.8%
