Friends and family gathered Saturday, July 5 for a surprise celebration for Carol W. Elliott, of Flagler Beach. Not only was it her 80th birthday, but she was also being recognized by the Flagler Beach Historical Museum, of which she is a founding member and continued contributor.

A proclamation celebrating Elliott was read by City Commissioner Jane Mealy. It read, “This remarkable women has set an example for others as an exemplary citizen of our community and Carol W. Elliott has earned the respect and admiration of all our citizens by her whole-hearted and dedicated participation in many church and city projects. … The city of Flagler Beach desired to publically recognize and show their appreciation to Carol W. Elliott for the great impact she has made on our community not only for the past years, but for many years to come.”

To date, she still affiliated with the Flagler Beach Historical Museum, Flagler Beach United Methodist Church/Women, National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, Flagler Beach Public Library and the Flagler Auditorium.

“I have always admired Carol and her free spirit,” Ruth Young, director of the Flagler Beach Library wrote in her remarks to be read at the celebration. “She is a very giving person, not only of her resources, but also of herself and her time. All of us here at the Flagler Beach Library wish her a very happy 80th birthday.”
