I bailed you out; now trim my trees!

2:23 p.m. — 600 Block of Arroyo Parkway. Theft. Police responded to a call where a tree-trimming service drove a large piece of equipment through a neighboring yard, causing damage to the grass and a piece of concrete.

While the officer was on the scene, the trimmers agreed to repair the damage. While collecting the names of the involved parties, the officer discovered that the boss had a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested and taken to jail.

A week later, the person who had hired the trimmers contacted police and said that the suspect, one of the trimmers, came to her house and said his boss had been jailed and, if she wanted the work completed, she would have to bail him out for $600.

The victim agreed and wrote a personal check for that amount. After the check was cashed, she called the suspect and asked when the job would be completed. He said he still had not bailed his boss out of jail. She said she would call police and he said, “That’s fine: I know where you live.”

The officer noted that the bail was set at $500 and would be substantially less than that if a bondsman was used.

Hungry? Why wait?

12:21 p.m. — First Block of St. Anne Circle. Theft. The victim said she returned from a cruise to discover her 46-inch Samsung television and HP laptop missing. She confronted her 21-year-old grandson about the items, and he said there was no food in the house so he pawned the television and sold the laptop.

He handed her the pawn slip so she could go pay for the television, but she opted to press charges, instead.

The police placed a hold on the TV at the pawn shop, and the criminal Investigative Division is following up.
