harity worker robbed
11:01 a.m. — 1500 West Granada Boulevard. Theft. The officer was at a department store when he was flagged down. The victim said he left his black duffel bag by the door while he was at his Salvation Army collection basket in front of the store. At 8:15 p.m., he started to leave and noticed his bag was missing. He had bank papers, cell phone charger and water in the bag.

Suspect arrested in mailbox theft
9:00 a.m. — 800 Quail Run. Petit Theft. The victim said a female in a gray SUV removed mail from her mailbox and one of her neighbors, so she approached the vehicle and spoke with her. She asked the suspect to return the mail, but she sped off. The victim said she could identify her because she saw her in close proximity. She had long brown, wavy hair.
About 45 minutes later, the officer heard central dispatch give a call to Holly Hill Police Department in reference to a female with brown hair taking mail out of mailboxes and she was driving an SUV.
The SUV was pulled over by a Volusia County deputy.
The officer called the victim and asked if she come and identify the suspect and she said yes. The officer picked her up and drove her to the traffic stop. On the way, he told her that the person may or may not be the person who took her mail. He said if she is not 100% sure, she should not feel compelled to make an identification.
On scene, the victim said she was 100% sure that the person was the suspect who took her mail. The Holly Hill police on scene said they would deliver the mail after separating it.
The suspect made a spontaneous comment that she was stopped by a female in Ormond Beach who asked about mail that was stolen. By this statement, she admitted she was in contact with the victim. She also admitted to targeting all of the mailboxes on the road.
She was arrested for petit theft.
Dec. 13
Bank stops check crime
9:37 a.m. — 100 Block of Shady Branch Trail. Theft. The victim said that yesterday at 1 p.m., she put three checks in her mailbox and placed the flag up. Later, she went out to add some Christmas cards and found that the flag was still up and the checks were gone. She said she thought it was odd the mailman did not put the flag down.
She said that today she received a call from a bank in DeLand asking if she wrote a check out to the suspect. The victim said she did not.
The officer contacted DeLand police and said the check was stolen. DeLand police then arrested the suspect for fraud.
The bank told the victim that another check had been cashed by a different person.
