The stream of voters showing up at polling places in Flagler County on Election Day, Tuesday, Aug. 26, has been closer to a steady trickle than a deluge.

No lines were reported. As of 2 p.m., 2,665 people — about 3.8% of eligible voters — had voted at the county’s 37 polling places since the polls opened at 7 a.m., according to the Flagler County Supervisor of Elections Office.

“It’s so empty in there, I was sad. It’s so empty,” Palm Coast resident Barbara Kuhn said after casting her ballot at the Palm Coast Community Center Tuesday morning. “I was the only one voting. You know, people complain, complain, complain. And then we have an election, and nobody shows.”

There are 70,921 eligible voters in Flagler County. A total of 4,665 voted during early voting, 3,900 voted absentee ballots, Flagler County Elections Supervisor Kimberle Weeks said.

But altogether, the number of people who voted, early, voted on election day as of 2 p.m., and voted absentee ballots comes to about 15.8% of eligible voters.

Turnout in Flagler County for the 2010 primary was about 22%.

“You never can predict what kind of turnout you’re going to have,” Weeks said. “It varies from election to election.”

Palm Coast resident Patty Ulrich, who voted at the Community Center, said voting went smoothly. “More people should do it,” she said. “I wish they would. If you don’t vote, you can’t complain.”
