The Ormond Beach Lions Club is actively seeking new members for its organization.

After celebrating its 60th year, the Ormond Beach Lions Club is looking to grow its membership.

Through a variety of fundraising activities, the club funds programs that:

  • Finance eye exams
  • Conduct retina scans
  • Conduct eye surgeries and care
  • Collect eyeglasses for recycling
  • Support the Conklin Center for the Blind
  • Provide hearing aides for those in need
  • Fund service dog training
  • Sponsor the Seabreeze High School Leo Club
  • Honor the SHS Student-Athlete of the Month
  • Sponsor the International Peace Poster Contest at Ormond Middle School
  • Provide special wheelchairs for the beach to aid the physically impaired.

Their next fundraising event will be its 13th annual Golf Tournament on Oct. 4 at the River Bend Golf Club. The tournament format features an 18-hole, four person flighted scramble. The entry fee is $50, which includes a cart, greens fee, complimentary Bloody Mary's, Screwdrivers, coffee, donuts; two free drink tickets for the round and a Cash Awards Lunch following play.

Tournament prizes include $15,000 to the winner of the hole-in-one competition, airline tickets, golf clubs and big screen TV for competitions on designated par 3's and cash payouts to winners in all divisions. Ladies are welcome and have their own payouts and prizes. In addition, all tournament players receive a bag full of goodies at the awards luncheon.

The Ormond Beach Lions meet at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, Sept. through June, at Mario's Restaurant, 521 S. Yonge St. Membership is open to all. Contact Lion Dolph Veatch, membership chairman at 235-4788, or email at [email protected].
