Police department hosts Citizen Police Academy

The Ormond Beach Police Department will host their Citizen Police Academy starting Sept. 9. 

Residents of Ormond Beach will soon be able to better understand their police department by attending its Citizen Police Academy. Through the 10-week program, citizens can get an inside look at the job duties of a law enforcement officer and gain insight into the department’s policy. The class syllabus is as follows:

  • Week 1: Introduction, department mission, meeting chief of police and an overview of the academy
  • Week 2: Active shooter
  • Week 3: Criminal investigations, violent and property crimes
  • Week 4: Crime scene investigations, evidence and internal investigations
  • Week 5: Victim advocate and assistance program
  • Week 6: K9 operations, drug ID and investigations
  • Week 7: DUI and field sobriety testing
  • Week 8: Patrol operations
  • Week 9: Traffic investigations
  • Week 10: Special problems in law enforcement

The classes will be held at the police department, 170 W. Granada Blvd. Classes run from 7 to 9 p.m. Call 676-3526.
