Annual India Day was held at Rockefeller Gardens Sunday to showcase diversity and culture.
The smells and sounds coming from Rockefeller Gardens Sunday brought Ormond Beach residents to the Middle East.
The 8th annual India Day Festival was hosted by the Indian Cultural Society of Daytona Beach to educate the local public about Indian Culture.
“It gives the community Indian awareness,” Society President Sangeeta Bhoola said. “It’s good for the Indian community as well because a lot of them don’t know each other. There are a lot of mixed marriages where they want to teach their children the culture but they don’t know how. So this is the way.”
Open to the public, the event included traditional Indian cuisine, traditional dances, henna tattoos and yoga classes.
“In India there are a lot of different religious sects but this is just what brings the community together,” Bhoola said. “You don’t have to be religious or Hindu and still come out here and learn about the culture. And eat the food. Everyone loves Indian food.”
