Firefighters train, lifeguards simulate
The Ormond Beach Fire Department took part in Halifax Hospital’s trauma-injury conference Oct. 5, which hosted 210 emergency paramedics from throughout the state.
After training and classroom sessions, firefighters met the families of organ donors who died from trauma, as well as some recipients who received organs.
“It really impacted how I looked at severe calls,” said paramedic Tabitha Wu.
A watercraft-collision scenario was also performed, during which county lifeguards stabilized the “victims” and other local emergency departments simulated their parts in the process.
