County Cattlemen and Cattlewomen are looking to give a Cattlekid cash; book-signing coming to The Casements; and, registration open for annual garden fair.

Plow toward a $500 agriculture scholarship

The Volusia County  Cattlemen and Women's Association is sponsoring four $500 Kathi Weaver Memorial Agriculture Scholarships to Volusia County high school seniors, or former Volusia County students attending an accredited institution. Applicants must be a member in good standing with the Volusia County 4-H or Future Farmers of America programs or, if in college, show an interest in agriculture through coursework.

Applications will be judged on academic history, an essay, agriculture-related activies and extracurricular activities, and two letters of recommendation.

Submissions are due by March 15 and can be mailed to Bernie LeFils, 161 E. Rose Ave., Orange City, Fla., 32763. Or search “scholarship,” at Volusia.org.

The annual economic impact of Volusia County's agriculture and natural resources industries is $781 million, representing 3% of the county’s economic activity.

History writers to hold book signing

The Casements, at 25 Riverside Drive, will host Ron and Alice Howell, authors of “The Grand Hotel Ormond,” 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 7. The Howells’ book is about the opening and evolution of the historic Hotel Ormond, on the Halifax River.

Calling all gardeners, for annual fair

The Volusia County Master Gardeners will hold its 15th-annual Plant and Vendor Fair April 6, at the Volusia County Extension Service Fairgrounds, 3100 E. New York Ave., in Deland. And Chairperson Terri Olsen is currently soliciting vendors.

Vendor spaces, 30 feet by 20 feet, are $50. Call 943-9309.
