The badly decomposed body of a man found in a marsh area behind 16 Covington Lane, in Palm Coast, in January has been identified as Dennie Keith Cayton, 60, of Palm Coast.

At the request of Doctor Predrag Bulic, the Medical Examiner for the 23rd District of Florida, the victim’s remains were sent to the anthropology section of the University of Florida for osteological examination.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office recently received a report of the findings of that examination, which identified the victim as Cayton.

Cayton was not married, was unemployed and at the time of his death, and he resided at 16 Covington Lane.

The Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the death a homicide by stabbing.

The case remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Annie Conrad at 586-4844 or call Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida at (888-277-TIPS.

Tipsters can text information by texting "tip231" plus their message to CRIMES (274637). Tipsters who provide information to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $5,000.
