A winning tradition: FPS brings home five international awards

The Future Problem Solvers of Flagler County came home with five world titles this year, making it the 20th consecutive year that Flagler County students have earned world titles. 

The winners are as follows:

Savannah Umpenhour, Community Problem Solving, second place individual middle division; Bunnell Elementary School's The "Movement" Movement, Health and Human Concerns, second place team junior division; Flagler Palm Coast's Hype Hub, Civic and Cultural, first place team senior division ; Flagler Palm Coast's The Music In you, Human Services, third place team senior division ; and Caitlin Burns, Multiaffiliate Global Issues Problem Solving Competition, third place senior division.

Michael Pierre, of Bunnell Elementary, also carried in the Florida flag at the opening ceremonies.

Christian Page, 3, had a big smile on his face when he found out he was the winner of a $25 gift card funded by the Friends of the Library of Flagler County.

The drawing was a finale for Children’s Book Week at the Flagler County Public Library. Page’s name was drawn out of 65 entries. His mother said that he was already thinking about what books he would buy before he won the gift card. 

Flagler Film Festival calls for entries
Independent film producers Kathie Barry and Orion Christy have teamed up to bring a film festival to Flagler County. The festival is scheduled to take place Jan. 10-12, 2014. Submissions can be made at either withoutabox.com or via the festival's website: flaglerfilmfestival.com.

The call for entries is open with special rates available to students and locals. With genre categories across the board, almost any film, both feature and short, has the opportunity to be showcased.

The festival is also seeking sponsors, with promotional packages available by emailing [email protected] or [email protected].
 
Around town …
The Palm Coast Elks Lodge recently held an Animal Adoption event in conjunction with Second Chance Rescue, Flagler Humane Society, Flagler Cats and S.A.F.F.A.R.I., adopting out six animals and raising more than $100.

Nozomi Dickson, of Palm Coast, made The President’s List at St. Catharine College, in Central Kentucky.
