Two Palm Coast men accused of first-degree murder and kidnapping have pled not guilty.

Charles “Danny” Massey, 38, and Justin Adam Boyles, 24, are charged with the June 13 murder of Edwards “Scott” Mullener, 54. Investigators say the two men killed Mullener because of an apparent love triangle.

Massey will be represented by attorney Garry L. Wood. Boyles will be represented by Raymond M. Warren.

Investigators said the two men beat Mullener, poured beer down his throat and cut him with broken bottles before taking him away from a Palm Coast home in his car.

Mullener’s charred remains were found in the trunk of his Cadillac Fleetwood the next day. The car was badly burned and parked on a logging road in St. Johns County.

If convicted, Boyles and Massey face death sentences.

Massey and Boyles both have felony arraignments scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 13. A pretrial hearing in Boyles’ case is slated for 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 6.
