Summer Foley isn’t the only star of the Athens Theatre production of “Cats,” which opened April 5, in Deland. But she’s the only one from Ormond Beach.
A Seabreeze High School sophomore, Foley has lived in the city her whole life and first knew she wanted to be involved in theater at 5 years old, when her grandmother would sing her showtunes.
“I’m more into the musical theater,” she says. “Dancing and singing play an important role to me.”
She has taken voice lessons with Jo Traywick for the past six years and will be attending Stage Door Manor performing arts camp, in New York, in June.
She has also been accepted into the Broadway Theatre Project, in July, and was awarded a scholarship.
“Cats,” by Andrew Lloyd Webber, features performers from Volusia, Flagler and Orange counties. Directed by Sands’ Artistic Director Clark Adams, and musical direction by Julia Hood, it’s choreographed by Simone Boos. Costumes and production design are by Kim Crayne.
Tickets are $10 to $25. Use the promo code “BOGO” online — www.AthensDeLand.com — to get two seats for the price of one, at the Thursday, April 11 show.
