Video footage recorded last week from a red light camera shows a traffic accident involving a Flagler County Sheriff's Office patrol car and a Smart Car being driven by a former Palm Coast City Councilman.

Sheriff’s Office deputy Darrell Butler was headed west on Palm Coast Parkway in the outside lane around 6:42 p.m. Thursday, with his emergency equipment activated. According to the report, Butler stopped for a red light before proceeding through the intersection.

The video shows Butler almost came to a complete stop before proceeding through the intersection.

William Venne, 80, of Palm Coast, was driving his Smart Car, headed south on Belle Terre Parkway.

Venne’s car then struck the right side of Butler’s cruiser, the report states.

Venne had a green light, according to the report.

Both Venne and Butler endured injuries, and both were wearing their seatbelts. Venne is a former City Councilman.
