Twenty-four Presbyterian women from throughout Northeast Florida gathered Oct. 20, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, for a sewing workshop.
The women created more than 30 dresses for the Little Dresses for Africa project. Dresses were made in sizes small through extra large. Carol Graff, southeast regional coordinator for the St. Augustine Presbytery, organized this workshop. Graff, a member of Trinity Presbyterian, said she was pleased with the attendance and the amount of work that was accomplished.
“Saturday is the first of six workshops that will be held in each region of the St. Augustine Presbytery,” said Jennifer King, Together in Service coordinator of St. Augustine Presbytery, who originated the idea for the project.
Members of three churches attended this workshop: Geneva Presbyterian Church, of Geneva; Memorial Presbyterian Church, of St. Augustine; and Trinity Presbyterian, of Palm Coast (the host church).
Memorial Presbyterian Church brought along the 77 dresses and five pairs of britches for boys the sewing group, the Sew and Sows, had made in the last three weeks.
Saturday’s creations, as well as all dresses made in the other five regions, will be sent to a meeting of Presbyterian Women in Lake City, in January, to be dedicated before they are sent to Africa.
King said the best thing about this project is that it “provides new clothing for children who never get new clothing." This makes the garments very special for the children, King said.
Most of the women took materials home with them and will continue to make more dresses or britches between now and the January deadline. For more information on the project, call the Trinity Presbyterian Church office at 445-4757.
+Seniors gather for a good time
A group of senior friends gathered Oct. 14, at Varn Park beach, for fun and games.
The beach party, hosted by Dave and Pat Block and George and Kathy Waite, had 25 people enjoying all Flagler County's beaches have to offer. They flew kites, ate hot dogs, walked the beach, played games, enjoyed music, laughter and good conversation. The group also built a giant turtle sand sculpture.
