A 2001 Mitsubishi Diamante crashed into a Flagler County school bus at 7:10 a.m. Friday, May 18, on Whiteview and Belle Terre parkways. No one was injured.
The Diamante, driven by 29-year-old Joseph C. McKiernan, was traveling east on Whiteview near Belle Terre behind a school bus, driven by Francis A. Langley, 47. The bus stopped in the left turn lane, awaiting Belle Terre traffic.
McKiernan said he was blinded by the glare from the morning sun on his fogged windshield. He swerved right and braked abruptly as he approached the stopped bus, but he was unable to stop in time.
None of the 35 students, ages 13 to 19, claimed to be injured, and they were transferred to another bus for transport to Buddy Taylor Middle and Flagler Palm Coast High schools.
The report from the Florida Highway Patrol states McKiernan will be charged with careless driving for the rear-end crash.
