The School Board agreed Tuesday, May 15, to expel from Flagler schools four students, whose names have been withheld to protect their privacy. A breakdown of each student’s offenses, according to School Board staff, is listed below.
- A 16-year-old, seventh-grade male brought a knife to school and would not give it to his counselor. The student, who is currently receiving counseling, is scheduled to re-enter Pathways Academy in August.
- An eighth-grade student “violently attacked” another student at Pathways Academy while wearing a black bandana, a “gang-related symbol” that he has been repeatedly disciplined over. In the past, the student has threatened to beat up staff and even "catch the principal out of school.”
The student may return to Pathways in August. During his expulsion, the student must participate in anger-management and decision-making counseling.
- A female student was expelled after being charged with felony battery on a school official. The student “engaged in threatening violence on another student” and then pushed her principal. In trying to restrain the student, the student’s counselor fell and was kicked by the student, who also threatened the School Resource Officer.
The student was expelled through the first term of 2013 and will be required to complete counseling before entering Pathways.
- A Flagler Palm Coast High School student was expelled after threatening to bring a gun to school and kill another student, as well as himself, on three separate occasions. The student has been involved in programs such as Outward Bound, and is eligible for virtual school during his expulsion, which is scheduled until January 2013. On his return, he will be eligible to enroll at Pathways.
