A Palm Coast man suspected of downloading hundreds of child pornography files stabbed his computer with a samurai sword Wednesday afternoon as federal agents raided his home, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Kamil Mezalka, 21, of Palm Coast, faces federal charges of downloading child pornography over the Internet. If convicted, Mezalka faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 20 years in federal prison, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office release.
According to the report, agents with the FBI executed a federal search warrant May 8 at Mezalka’s residence. After the agents entered the home, Mezalka ignored commands to exit his bedroom. When the agents entered the bedroom where Mezalka was located, he was holding a samurai sword, which he used to stab into the side of a desktop computer, the report states.
Mezalka ignored commands to drop the sword, and the agents detained him. An examination of Mezalka’s computer revealed “hundreds of files depicting the sexual abuse of children," according to the report. Mezalka was arrested.
The case was investigated by the FBI and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney D. Rodney Brown.
In April, Mezalka used a samurai sword to protect his mother from his stepfather.
According to a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office report, Zbigniew Supinski, 63, was choking his wife and threatened to kill her with a gun. Mezalka, armed with a 2-foot samurai sword, ordered his stepfather to stop.
