Palm Coast-based water-conditioning-system manufacturer Aqualytic USA was named SCORE startup of the year.
The Lewis H. Goodman Startup Entrepreneur award for 2011 was presented to Palm Coast-based Aqualytic USA, the water-conditioning-system manufacturer which launched last January.
Presented at the Volusia County Department of Economic Development Friday, March 23, the award is given annually to a company in Volusia or Flagler counties that has worked with the local SCORE chapter and successfully established its business regionally.
“Aqualytic USA is well deserving of the award for having successfully developed an environmentally friendly, chemical-free hard-water-treatment product for varying applications both in the United States and overseas,” said Roger Leverton, Flagler County SCORE manager.
After developing its line of hard-water processors, Aqualytic owners Bob Wierschke, a marketer, and Mike Jett, a water-industry specialist, weren’t sure how to integrate their product into the market. That’s when they turned to SCORE.
“I can’t thank Roger enough for providing the experience and counseling services that startup ventures so badly need,” Wierschke said.
Aqualytic’s electrochemical water-conditioning system attaches to the incoming waterline of any home, condo, commercial or industrial facility, providing a nonmagnetic method of offering benefits found in traditional softeners. It means more efficient energy use, no more chlorine odor or irritation in pools, no scale build-up in plumbing and less need for chemical use.
“Florida has some of the hardest water in the country,” said Wierschke, citing not only domestic affects but also those in agriculture. Accumulated salt from hard water slows the transfer of nutrients from soil to crops, which hinders growth.
But according to Wierschke and Jett, use of their softener on farm sprinkler systems increases both yield and quality of crops.
Processors have also already been shipped overseas, to be used in Europe.
