The Ancient City Pipes and Drums have performed throughout the area for the better part of a decade, but have been based out of St. Augustine. This St. Patrick’s Day marked the start of the band’s new home in Palm Coast.

The Ancient City Pipes and Drums were established in 2002 by charter members Winston Boyd, Jack Kelly and Ralph Shear. Through the years, the band began to establish its roots in Flagler and St. Johns counties. The band is a non-competition street band made of men and women of diverse ethnic backgrounds. The majority of the members are retired, but there is a significant representation from the Palm Coast Fire Department and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

On March 17, Mayor Jon Netts welcomed the Ancient City Pipes and drums to Palm Coast as they performed at the grand opening of Farley’s Irish Pub in European Village.

The Ancient City Pipes and Drums practices 6-9 p.m. every Tuesday evening at the Portuguese American Cultural Center, 1200 Palm Harbor Parkway. Anyone interested in learning to play the bagpipes or drums is welcomed to join. Membership and instructions are free.

To hire the band or individual piper, contact Business Manager Jack Kelly at 586-8302.
