Palm Coast Arts Foundation has made a donation of $100 to Craig Riehl’s guitar class at the Indian Trails Middle School. The presentation was made to Riehl by Marlene Shapiro, trustee, during the school’s morning news broadcast. This is the foundation’s third musical donation after two to the Flagler Youth Orchestra.
Indian Trails has 950 students, of which 150 take music classes. Riehl’s guitar class is composed of 39 students but only 36 guitars. Some students have to double up during the lessons.
The donation will be used to help purchase two ¾-scale classical guitars for the classes. Riehl stated that one of the benefits of music to the students is that it helps organize the mind and is very closely tied to mathematics.
When Ashton Craig, an eighth-grade music student and pianist, was asked what music meant to her, she replied, “Music is an emotion, a language and a passion.”
Principal Vern Orndorff said: “This is a great opportunity for students to understand the commitment that our community has for the pursuit of academic excellence. We at Indian Trails Middle School believe your donation for our children’s future will be repaid many times over in the years ahead.”
