+ Democratic Party raises funds, avoids eviction
The Flagler County Democratic Party raised enough funds by March 1 to avoid eviction, according to Dan Parham, party chairman.

“There were a lot of democrats who sort of forgot that in order for the party to work, it has to have funds,” Parham said. “In many ways, even though it’s an embarrassment for the party, we woke up a lot of democrats who were not contributing, and they stepped up.”

The office, located at 1 Hargrove Grade, will remain open at least another month. Parham hopes the office can remain open at least until after the 2012 presidential election.

Having an office promotes visibility for the party and helps build enthusiasm, Parham said.

+ Fischer: ‘I noticed my windshield had shattered’
In her 911 call the morning after the crash Nov. 10, Jamesine Fischer told dispatch she thought she had hit a dog. In reality, Fischer had hit Francoise Pecqueur, who later died as a result of the crash, which occurred in Palm Coast’s C-section. Fischer is being charged with leaving the scene of the crash without reporting it.

The 911 call was made 11.5 hours after the crash and went as follows:

Fischer: I was driving down Columbia — I think it’s Lane — anyway, I was driving down and I heard a thud, and I thought I hit a dog. And then … I pulled over, and when I got out of the car, there was a lady laying there, and I thought she had fallen, and the dog was free. And I had hit the dog. And the (ambulance) came for her.

Dispatch: Did you stay on scene there?

Fischer: I did, and nobody came. I mean, (the ambulance) was there, and they took the woman.

Dispatch:
Did you tell them you thought you may have hit her?

Fischer:
I didn’t realize it until afterward, because I was going to a neighbor’s house down the road, and when I pulled into the driveway and got out of the car, that was the first time I had noticed that my windshield had shattered.

(Dispatch then takes down name, number and address of Fischer.)

Dispatch:
We’ll have an officer come out, OK, ma’am?

Fischer:
OK, bye.

+ Accused dog-stabber declared incompetent
Sahmi Green, who was charged with animal cruelty after stabbing a dog to death Feb. 12, on Prospect Lane, was declared incompetent Feb. 29 by Judge Raul Zambrano.

According to court documents, Dr. Elek J. Ludvigh examined Green. Green was ruled “incompetent to proceed due to mental illness.” He meets the criteria for commitment to a treatment facility of the Department of Children and Families and will be committed to a mental health facility, the court document states.

The incident drew national attention when Hands 4 Paws posted the story and amassed more than 3,000 signatures in favor of Green receiving the maximum penalty for the crime.

+ Pre-trial date set in Bunnell business scam

Tavares was booked Jan. 19 on seven felony charges. He was released after posting $125,000 bond.
