The Flagler County Democratic Party raised enough funds by the March 1 deadline and will avoid eviction, according to Dan Parham, the party’s chairman.

“There were a lot of democrats who sort of forgot that in order for the party to work, it has to have funds,” Parham said Thursday in a phone interview. “In many ways, even though it’s an embarrassment for the party, we woke up a lot of democrats who were not contributing and they stepped up.”

Parham said there wasn’t one notable donation, rather several smaller donations helped the party raise the money to pay its rent.

The office, located at 1 Hargrove Grade, in Palm Coast, will remain open at least for another month. Parham hopes the office can remain open at least until after the 2012 Presidential Election, in November, but he knows nothing is guaranteed.

“A lot of stuff is coming in every day,” he said. “And that’s key. You have to continue with funding coming in.”

Having an office promotes visibility for the party and helps build enthusiasm, Parham said.
