The Matanzas Woods Parkway interchange with Interstate 95 isn’t Palm Coast’s top transportation project, according to its priorities list agreed to this week.
The Palm Coast City Council discussed the list of priorities at its June 26 workshop. Then, City Manager Jim Landon met with county officials Wednesday to finalize its list of priorities list to be submitted to the state as part of the Florida Department of Transportation’s five-year work program.
The top project was the first phase of the Old Kings Road extension. The city requested $2.95 million for the construction phase for fiscal year 2014-2015.
The Matanzas Woods Parkway/I-95 interchange was the No. 2 priority.
County Administrator Craig Coffey said “there was some give and take” to work together to come up with the final list.
“This year’s main challenge was trying to work through the Matanzas interchange issue and getting (Palm Coast’s) local roads built that (the city) would like to build,” Coffey wrote Thursday in an email. “We do not support the premise of Palm Coast staff that local roads must be built prior to the interchange ... However, we do support their projects and are jointly working together to try and make them happen.”
Landon said local impact fee dollars can be used for the Palm Harbor Parkway extension, which city officials believe is a key component to having the I-95 interchange be successful.
“Yesterday, what we agreed is to go meet with the FDOT and present a united front as to the importance of fully funding both the Matanzas Woods Parkway interchange and the Old Kings Road extension,” Landon said.
The sixth priority, according to the city’s list, is the widening of Old Kings Road to four lanes north of Palm Coast Parkway. The ninth project is changing State Road 100 into six lanes.
