Red light cameras, replacing Meeker on Tuesday's agenda

Palm Coast soon will add nine new red light cameras if the City Council approves the locations at Tuesday’s workshop.

Currently, there are 10 red light cameras monitoring six Palm Coast intersections. Earlier this month, the City Council approved a contract extension with American Traffic Solutions to enforce the red light cameras. The city has final say on new camera locations.

According to the proposal, ATS will add nine new cameras, upping the city total to 19.

The nine new camera locations are as follows:

State Road 100 and Interstate 95 southbound off-ramp (camera facing eastbound)
State Road 100 and Interstate 95 northbound off-ramp (camera facing westbound)
Belle Terre Parkway and Cypress Point Parkway (camera facing northbound)
Belle Terre Parkway and State Road 100 (camera facing southbound)
State Road 100 and Memorial Medical Parkway (camera facing eastbound)
State Road 100 and Memorial Medical Parkway (camera facing westbound)
State Road 100 and Seminole Woods Parkway (camera facing westbound)
Palm Coast Parkway Southwest and Pine Cone Drive (camera facing eastbound)
Palm Coast Parkway and Interstate 95 southbound off-ramp (camera facing westbound)

According to City Manager Jim Landon, the City Council (and American Traffic Solutions) might be willing to add even more cameras in the future.

Also on Tuesday’s agenda, the City Council will discuss the process to replace City Councilman Frank Meeker, who has resigned to run for the County Commission.

Although it’s a different City Council now compared to when County Commissioner Alan Peterson resigned from the City Council, the process will likely be the same, with the City Council accepting applications and ultimately deciding the replacement.

Landon said a timeline will be set at Tuesday’s meeting. Meeker’s resignation will take effect Nov. 6.

The City Council will also hear a budget presentation on the special revenue and capital projects fund.

The final presentation is tentatively set for Sept. 19, when the City Council will have a final public hearing and final adoption of the 2012-2013 millage rate and budget.
