Flagler County’s unemployment rate is at 13.9%, according to the numbers released Jan. 20, by the Center for Business Excellence. That’s the highest of any county in the state.
For the year, nonagricultural jobs in Palm Coast were 17,700 in December 2011, a decrease of 3.3% (600) over the year — the steepest decline in the state. Statewide, employment increased by 1.6% in the same period.
By way of comparision, total nonagricultural employment increased by 3,100 jobs over the year in the Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach metro area.
State unemployment is 9.7%. The combined Flagler-Volusia rate is 10.5%.
The Palm Coast (13.9%), Ocala (11.6%), and Sebastian-Vero Beach (11.4%) metro areas have the highest unemployment rates in the state. Long-term weakness in construction and losses in government contributed to the high unemployment rates in these areas.
