At the request of the Palm Coast City Council, video footage from the city’s red light cameras were shown at the Feb. 21 City Council meeting.
There are 10 cameras monitoring six intersections throughout the city.
In December 2011, four of the five members of the City Council agreed that the red light cameras have helped change driver behavior in the city — saving lives and reducing the number of traffic accidents.
City Attorney Bill Reischmann said Feb. 21 that statewide studies have shown a decrease in traffic accidents at intersections with cameras.
The majority of the fees goes to the state and American Traffic Systems. About 19% goes to the city, which uses the funds for street improvements.
The following are some of the videos shown at the Feb. 21 Palm Coast City Council meeting.
